Short bio:

Nectarios Koziris is an Associate Professor at National Technical Univeristy of Athens, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research interests include parallel architectures, interaction between compilers, OS and architectures, OS virtualization, large scale computer and storage systems, cloud infrastructures, distributed systems and algorithms, distributed data management. He has co-authored more than 100 research papers. From 2002, he has been involved in the organization of more than 50 international conferences as Chair/co-Chair, Program Chair,PC Member, Publicity Chair etc, including SPAA, IPDPS, ACM Supercomputing, ICPP, PDSEC & CAC workshops etc. He has given numerous talks in conferences and international forums about his research. He is a recipient of several awards for his pioneering research in parallel computing. He has been a project coordinator/key researcher in several EU and national Research Programmes, in the area of high performance computing and large scale computer systems. He is a member of the IEEE Computer Society, member of IEEE-CS TCPP and TCCA, Senior Member of the ACM and chairs the Greek IEEE Chapter Computer Society. In 2007, he started the Free/Libre/Open Source Software non-profit organization (ELLAK www.ellak.gr), founded by the Greek Universities and Research Centers. EEL/LAK aims at promoting the use of free/open source software in Greece by supporting OSS projects, organizing international conferences and introducing OSS solutions in the public and private sector. Nectarios is serving as the Vice-Chair for the Greek Research and Education Network (GRNET-Greek NREN, www.grnet.gr). He is leading GRNET efforts in developing a public cloud infrastructure, codenamed ~okeanos, offering IaaS to all (similar to Amazon WS). ~okeanos is based on open source, runs in alpha from July 2011 (okeanos.grnet.gr). Prior to that, he started the Pithos (and in Nov 2011 the Pithos+)cloud storage service, similar to Dropbox, for the Greek community, with now over 10K everyday users. Pithos offers 50GB of cloud storage to everybody, and features like iPhone and Android clients, sync and version control. Nectarios is commited to building low PUE, green DataCenters, based on low cost commodity infrastructures, to deliver cloud services.
